Researching the Effects of Conquest and Exploration of Americas in the 1400s-1500s
Posted by Trésor KayumbaFifth grade Social Studies scholars recently completed an extensive research project. The project required for the students to research Spanish explorers and learn about the ways of life and traditions of indigenous people (Taino (Arawaks), Aztecs, and Incas) the Conquistadors had encountered. Scholars read primary sources, ranging from Christopher Columbus’ diaries, to accounts from Howard Zin’s A People’s History of The United States. Students produced diary entries and performed original monologues as a Conquistador or Indigenous person detailing their experiences in 1492 to 1500s.
