An Interdisciplinary Field Experience in New Haven
Posted by Eric SnowDuring the 6th Grade interdisciplinary field experience in New Haven, students first visited the Yale University Art Gallery on a focused tour of several art pieces throughout the labyrinthine buildings that spanned centuries of human achievement. We looked at a modernist woven piece from an indigenous artist that connected the technology required for human flight to the natural flight of winged creatures like birds and bats. We also viewed some Renaissance art, ancient Mesoamerican art, and 20th century portraits.
Afterwards, we had an amazing lunch at Modern Apizza – one of the absolute best pizzerias in the country, and a New Haven landmark. (The culinary highlight of field experiences in the year so far!)
Finally, we toured the Peabody Museum with an expert on Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt, which directly connected to their Humanities study of those early societies.
(Little did they know that their introduction to mummies would come back in the second trimester with a joint Science-Humanities Chicken Mummy lab!)
