An Unquowa Tradition
Posted by Katie BrennaThanksgiving is a time of tradition, gratitude and celebrating community at Unquowa. At lunchtime, students, faculty and staff came together for a traditional, family-style feast with all the trimmings prepared by Chef David and his team. As our hosts for the day, our eighth graders decorated the gym and played the role of servers, making sure that everyone had as much turkey and sides as they could eat.
Per custom, students recited prayers in many different languages before feasting at the Thanksgiving Banquet. Eighteen student representatives from fifth grade through eighth grade said prayers of thanks in nine different languages! The heritage languages represented were Spanish, Mandarin, Ukrainian, Gaelic, Czechoslovakian, Sanskrit, Lebanese, French, Hebrew and Sign Language. As always, it is inspiring to hear and see students of all ages recite these heritage prayers with pride. Just one more thing to be grateful for!
