Climbing the Reading Ladder!!!
Posted by Trésor KayumbaIn 5th grade Literature, scholars are learning a wide range of reading strategies in order to develop effective reading skills. Currently, we are learning how to set reading goals and become aware of keeping focused by using a “reading ladder” strategy. This strategy is a powerful way of empowering students not only to know themselves as readers but to also measure their own progress as they achieve reading goals and climb up the ladder! One student shares her thoughts on this strategy by saying, “I think it’s a nice way to track things and understand what’s going on in my book.” Another student reflects, “I like to know that there is a party at the end of this!” In my opinion, “students have to set measurable goals as a reader!” and they have to be intentional about the kind of experience they are having while reading, in order for this important skill to become meaningful.
