Defining Science Through Art
Posted by Craig KnebelWhenever possible I like to get the kids out of the classroom to apply their skills and knowledge of the definitions of science. So, as part of the lesson on erosion the sixth graders went outside to study the Horse Tavern Brook, to observe and then draw the term and how it affects our local stream. In other words, don’t read about erosion in a book, go out and observe it and draw it yourself.
We followed this lesson up with a second trip to the brook where the students practiced taking precise metric measurements of the brook’s temperature, depth and flow rate in metric terminology.
