Express Yourself!
Posted by Alyson CahillFifth grade drama students recently had a lot of fun exploring different expressions. We came up with a long list of specific emotions – including calm, hungry, relaxed, and jealous – and made expression cards. Students picked several cards at random and shared how they would express these emotions using only their faces and body language. We discovered that while some were quite easy (for example, the expression for “excited” is fairly universal), some were rather challenging and subjective. For example, “surprised” can be expressed in different ways depending on the situation. In addition to being a fun exercise in dramatic interpretation, this activity led to some very interesting conversations and observations!
