Heirloom Lettuce
Posted by Mary CurranHave you ever heard of Grandpa Admire’s lettuce? The 4th graders started this heirloom variety in the Grow Lab in early April. It has beautiful bronze-tinged leaves and was named after George Admire, a Civil war veteran born in 1822. Students transplanted many varieties of lettuce including Amish Deer Tongue, Red Rosie, and Tennis Ball into the Unquowa Garden. In May, the 4th graders harvested these delicious heirlooms for Chef Dave and Chef Tom to use in the salad bar!
