“I have given you my soul; leave me my name!”
Posted by Alyson CahillEighth grade drama students are about halfway through reading and analyzing Arthur Miller’s masterpiece, The Crucible. Students have been approaching the play through the lens of an actor, and in doing so, are making very insightful connections to the play’s characters. By assigning “roles” to each student when we read, followed by in-depth discussions and analyses, we are examining the characters’ motivations and subtext throughout the course of the play’s action. The Crucible, which centers around the Salem witch trials, is considered to be one of the greatest American plays ever written. Students have been making excellent progress in following its somewhat challenging plot, in addition to identifying how its content can be applied to more current events.
