In the Realm of the Fairies
Posted by Krissy PondenThe second and seventh graders went on an amazing adventure into the realm of the fairies at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme. Set among stunning views of the Lieutenant River and historical gardens are 32 fairy houses, each painstakingly crafted by artists and enthusiasts. With a different theme for each exhibit, guests are invited to explore these miniature worlds and look for a specified hidden object. The students toured the fairy garden and then had the wonderful opportunity to paint “en plein air” at the river’s edge after a lesson on foreground, background, color mixing and landscapes. It was the perfect fall day to spend at the Griswold and a memorable and imaginative experience for students and teachers alike!
