Mother’s Day Portraits!
Posted by Faith BarbutoA project that holds a special place in my heart, probably because the one my son made me still hangs on my wall, is our Mother’s Day portraits. I ask students to really thinking about their mother’s faces and use materials to accurately depicted their hair, eyes and mouths. We add in a writing piece about what they like to do with their mothers and I ask them to answer some questions about them too. You would be surprised how many moms like salad! I guess age is a concept somewhat ambiguous to a preschool child because I get very interesting answers when I ask how old their mother’s are. Another entertaining question is when I ask what Mom’s job is, of course we all the real answer is EVERYTHING! This year our portraits were accompanied by beautiful Chihuly inspired plastic flowers made in art class. Perfect because they can last in the backpack all weekend, if anyone has the self control to wait that long.
