Problem Solved!
Posted by Maureen DialloThe first grade scientists took a close look at Design Process during our first science unit. They discovered that people encounter problems in their everyday lives such as headphone cords getting tangled in a pocket or backpack! The first graders helped to solve this problem by using a design process and asked themselves, “What can I design to help fix this problem?” This process involved defining the problem, planning its solution, and then building, testing, and improving the solution. The first graders used materials found in the classroom to help build their design. To help support discovery and design, the class practiced using the phrases “I notice”, and “I wonder” as they worked on their solution.
