Rome wasn’t built in a day, but the Unquowa Kingdom was!
Posted by Lloyd Mitchell
Unquowa’s annual Winter Festival production, in its 32nd year, is a magical all-school show featuring many traditions along with many musical numbers performed by students of all ages.
Making Winterfest a reality is only possible with the support of many in the community who turn the Unquowa Gym, where it is more common to see a basketball game than a full fledged castle. Each year, the gym is transformed from a basketball court into a medieval castle complete with medieval seating. It begins with the arrival of our special seating followed by a full sound and light set up conducted by the tech crew who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make the show possible.
Then over the weekend the final touches are put on, completing that transformation.
Parent volunteers spend a Saturday working with Mr. Mitchell and Mr. Doug to install the stained glass windows, install a temporary stone wall along the seating, and complete the castle structure which sits above the stage. It isn’t possible without the parents and students who volunteer to make this a true team effort. Wintefest is a special production that you have to experience to be able to appreciate all the hard work that goes into making this show happen. We look forward to the 32nd show, where the King will return after being banished for 95 years to celebrate the great kingdom of Unquowa.
