Sixth Grade Monologues!
Posted by Alyson CahillSixth grade Drama students have been learning what it takes to analyze text and character by studying monologues. A monologue, a long speech delivered by one actor, is a great way to build skills not only in performing, but in critical thinking as well. By breaking down their monologues, students are given the opportunity to identify key concepts in dramatic form, such as a character’s objectives, setting, tone, and subtext. These monologues were explored informally during class time, and students discussed both individually and as a group how they identify (or in some cases, how they do not identify) with their characters! I’m impressed with this group’s ability to connect to the text. It’s been a lot of fun to watch!
