Sketching Out a New School Year
Posted by Krissy PondenOur sixth graders kicked off the year by making their own sketchbooks! 🌿☀️ We started outside in the school gardens by gathering flowers and leaves. Using turmeric as a natural dye, the students created anthotype prints, which are sun-bleached images that captured the shapes of the plants they found. Back inside, they learned a hand-sewn book binding technique called the coptic stitch. The resulting sketchbooks are sturdy, unique, and totally student-made. We are looking forward to filling these books with drawings, notes, and ideas all year!
