Sketching Out a New School Year
Posted by Krissy PondenOur sixth graders kicked off the year by making their own sketchbooks! ๐ฟโ๏ธ We started outside in the school gardens by gathering flowers and leaves. Using turmeric as a natural dye, the students created anthotype prints, which are sun-bleached images that captured the shapes of the plants they found. Back inside, they learned a hand-sewn book binding technique called the coptic stitch. The resulting sketchbooks are sturdy, unique, and totally student-made. We are looking forward to filling these books with drawings, notes, and ideas all year!
