Syrian Lunch and a Visit with Chef Mona
Posted by Krissy PondenEighth graders had the incredible opportunity to enjoy a special Syrian lunch from Sanctuary Kitchen in New Haven, and have a virtual visit with Chef Mona, a Syrian refugee, who shared her story with us. For their contributions to The Memory Project this year, the students will be painting portraits of Syrian children who currently live in refugee camps after escaping the ongoing civil war in Syria. The eighth graders learned about the conflict and the challenges facing refugees and then heard firsthand from Mona what it was like to have to leave the home that she loved and forge a new life in America. The portraits the students paint will be delivered to the children as a way to spread hope through art and work toward a kinder world.
