Voices of the Past
Posted by Trésor KayumbaLast night’s Voices of the Past event was a unique opportunity at our school in which young and old alike joined in a room to listen to the voices of Civil Rights leaders and engage in discussions about justice, moral responsibility, and equity. The students where extremely well-spoken and insightful. Students as young as first grade were in attendance offering input and ideas on how to be compassionate and respectful to one another. The night’s highlight was the engagement between young and old. Hearing young people grapple with ideas that we often do not expect them to comprehend, and the young showcasing their complexity and ability to engage with adults was refreshing. It was encouraging to gather in such a manner, and we look forward to another opportunity for discussions about topics we hold dear to our hearts. The hope of a more just and compassionate social climate still remains.
