Wendy Friedman Brest ‘53
Posted by Kate HavilandWendy Friedman Brest ‘53 lives with her husband Joel in Greenwich CT. She helped to organize the recent reunion this May for Unquowa alumni from the 1940s and 50s.
Wendy studied art at Brown University and her work has been widely exhibited throughout Connecticut and New York. The Greenwich Art Society hosted her most recent exhibit, “A Walk With Wendy – Collages, Drawings and Sculpture by Wendy Brest” this spring. The following is an excerpt from Wendy’s Artist’s Statement.
“As a daily walker, I stare at the ground hoping for castoffs, which I collect. Nothing is categorically dismissed. Leaves are a particular favorite in the fall. I draw their portraits on translucent paper and juxtapose a world of shapes beneath. The incongruity of materials adds a critical dimension. I also love working with the grid and with text. It’s the complexity I’m seeking. I want the viewer to move close to the work to see what’;s hiding in plain sight.”
