Where Does Our Food Come From?
Posted by Fiona EckersleyPreK-4 visited Silverman’s Farm this week. We have been busy learning all about why farms are important and where our food comes from….hint, it isn’t really the supermarket! Our visit began with a wonderful ride behind a tractor to see the apple trees. Next we had the chance to pick out a pumpkin to take home. Then it was off to feed some of the animals that you can find on a farm. There were animals that we expected to see and had talked about in class. Those that we knew provided food and clothing for us: chickens, goats, pigs, and sheep. It made us giggle to have a goat lick our outstretched hand. We also fed the unexpected llamas. What long necks and tongues to stretch out and try to steal our cups of feed!
The morning ended with a adventure through the maze and on to the playground where we saw a bench that had been carved from a 350-year-old Ash tree.
