Woodworking!
Posted by Joey CaseyThe Makerspace has been off to a great start of the year with an exciting new project: Woodworking! Students have been hard at work making a wooden shelf- clamping, sawing, drilling, screwing, and hammering. Many students have said that sawing is their favorite part so far, with using the power drill at a close second. We have covered a lot of new vocabulary, as well as other staple Makerspace practices. We talked about the importance of safety, especially when using tools. Students have done a fantastic job at keeping themselves and others safe while handling the equipment. Everyone should feel very proud! We also discussed vocabulary, such as hammer, nail, screwdriver, screw, handsaw, clamp, etc. and ways to use them. Everyone finished their shelf and we demonstrated how to hang the shelf on the wall. Some students inquired about a magnet so that they could hang it in their locker at school. What a great idea! If you haven’t seen the shelf already, one should be home shortly to display some small treasures.
