Potter in Residence
Posted by Krissy PondenWe are pleased to welcome our first artist in residence in our makerspace: potter, Jonah Stepakoff. Mr. Stepakoff has been throwing clay since he was in elementary school and today shares his love of this challenging and rewarding process with students. Several classes have already been down to see a demonstration of wheel throwing and have had the opportunity to touch the spinning clay themselves. We have just begun having pairs of students go down to the pottery station during visual arts periods to create simple bowls together with Mr. Stepakoff. Over the next several weeks, all interested students will be able to learn to throw clay on the wheel. We look forward to creating a multitude of bowls, which will be part of our Unquowa Empty Bowls fundraiser in the spring. More information about the program will follow!
