Eighth Grade Speeches Begin
Posted by Michelle LambEighth graders have eagerly begun delivering speeches at assembly this month, beginning our Eighth Grade Speaker Series. Elizabeth and Daniel have started off the year with interesting topics. Elizabeth’s speech, Sailing Back in Time: Shipbuilding in Northern Ireland gave personal information about her great-great grandfather’s efforts to build ships including the Titanic. Daniel’s speech, Mountain Biking: An Uphill Journey, discussed the importance of trying something new, even if it is difficult.
Eighth graders spend time planning, composing, editing, and revising their written speeches; developing a visual component; and, practicing their public speaking skills while preparing to deliver their speeches. It is a challenging process with great rewards.
There are more gripping speeches to come!
