It’s Time for the President’s Fitness Challenge!
Posted by Marybeth LaneFor the next two weeks, the Upper School will complete events in the 2013-2014 President’s Fitness Challenge. Our school participates in the President’s Fitness Challenge twice a year.
We test the students in various events such as the 50 yard dash, the long and short jump, relay race, curl-ups, the shuttle run, the beep test, the half mile run and v-sit reach. At the end of the year, we submit our combined results to the White House which compiles the data for an overall national fitness survey.
This week the Upper School classes completed the 50 yard dash, the relay race and the beep test. The beep test involves running back and forth between two markers at 20m (6.5′ 7.4″) apart at an increasing pace as indicated by audio. Impressively, 5th grade through 8th completed more than 10 levels of the beep test which stops at 20.
Next week, we will complete the shuttle run, long and short jump and the one mile run. The Upper School students have been running a steady pace since school began and they are definitely ready to complete the mile run with competitive results!
