Schoolyard Survey! (Investigating Biotic and Abiotic Relationships)
Posted by Joshua BartosiewiczThis past week in science the 7th graders were able to explore the beauty of Unquowa’s magical micro-ecosystems. In this study, students walked around the Unquowa landscape surveying various locations. Students made note of any organisms present, the abiotic and the biotic factors that are present and explained what their relationships are. There was a total of 4 sample sites (1. Tree Line, 2. Field, 3. Backwoods, 4. Brook) and each plot was sectioned using meter sticks, sticks and string. By the end of this lab, the 7th graders were able to understand the flow of these micro-ecosystems and connect all of these locations together. The lab ended with some mindfullness and self-meditation by the brook.
