Assembling for Assembly!
Posted by Jacqui MudreWednesday Assemblies at Unquowa are such a great tradition! This has been a time when the whole school, including our parents and families, can come together to celebrate birthdays, listen to important messages, make announcements and show off our well-rehearsed performances. For our Upper School students, assembly day is a time to dress in their Unquowa blazers, nervously present their eighth grade speeches and to set an example for our younger students to look up to. During this past year and a half, assemblies were still every Wednesday but COVID mitigation meant they could only be presented in a pre-recorded format, while students watched from their homerooms.
Happily, this past Wednesday we had our first dry run of getting back to an in-person assembly. Our eighth graders proudly took their Class of 2022 seats for the first time, with the seventh graders joining them for assembly. The rest of the school was able to watch the assembly virtually through a live feed. Students of all grades celebrating their birthdays were invited up onto the stage so we could all sing happy birthday to them in true Unquowa fashion. We listened to a welcome back message and a poem from Ms. Lauer and sang The Unquowa School Song. We were thrilled to finally return to somewhat of a more traditional Wednesday and are confident that as the year progresses, we will be able to invite more classes to be in person for the entire assembly and to present live performances from their grade.
With our dry run a success, parents will now get a link every Wednesday to allow them to connect directly to the live feed assembly. As the year progresses, we remain optimistic that our live audience will grow and we will be able to invite more to attend this Unquowa tradition in person.
