Fifth Grade Students and the Foundational Principle of UBUNTU!
Posted by Rebeca EspinosaThe start of our school year has been constructive, revealing, and encouraging for everyone. In 5th grade, during Advisory, students learned about the foundational principle of UBUNTU. This philosophy states that “We are made to live in a delicate network of interdependence with one another. A person is a person through other persons. A solitary human being is a contradiction in terms. A totally self-sufficient human being is ultimately subhuman. We are made for complementarity. I have gifts that you do not, and you have gifts that I do not. So we need each other to become fully human.” It is our goal to ensure that our students work and support each other. As teachers, we want to promote that working together, embracing our gifts, and being unique individuals guide us to have a meaningful experience alongside others.
