Garden Scavenger Hunt
Posted by Mary CurranIn September, 4th graders explored the Unquowa Garden by going on a scavenger hunt. They did an impressive job identifying vegetables such as sungold tomatoes, D’Avignon radishes, purple haze carrots, and yellow wax beans. Students even located our rain barrel, composter, and espalier pear tree. In addition, they discovered black swallowtail caterpillars on the parsley and a beautiful praying mantis in one of the herb beds. In many cultures the praying mantis is considered to be a symbol of stillness and a sign to be more mindful in the choices we make. Students enjoyed using the outdoors as a classroom and space to make new discoveries and connections in the garden.
