Mastering the Ukulele
Posted by David CoeOur fourth-eighth grade musicians are truly enjoying learning the new ukuleles! Because of their smaller size and fewer number of strings the ukes are fun and easy to learn and we’ve been playing everything from Beethoven to Bob Marley! We added the ukulele to the music department as an introduction to other stringed instruments, perfect for getting fourth and fifth grade students ready for guitar in sixth grade. It has been an unexpected plus that the older kids are enjoying them as well. Eighth graders recently accompanied the Junior Chorus in a rendition of Three Little Birds at assembly and there are more performances in the works – we may even see some ukuleles in the Kingdom of Unquowa during Winterfest. Stop by our classroom anytime you feel the need for a “mini-vacation” to Hawaii!
