Native American Study
Posted by Janice ShannonWe learned so much about the first people who lived in the Fairfield area many years ago. We talked about how Native Americans dressed in animal skins to stay warm, lived in structures like tepees, got their warmth from fire, hunted for food at the beaches and probably ate buffalo. We watched a few videos on the first Native Americans and tried a few things out for ourselves. We spent a day examining live fish, clams, crabs, lobsters and mussels. Then our chef cooked them all up for us with a delicious sauce. We took the leftovers and buried them in the woods by the brook as natural fertilizer and put some marigold seeds on the top. The next day we made a batch of our own “buffalo” stew and corn bread. We cut lots of vegetables and put them in a pot with the buffalo meat and let it cook for many hours. We went outside and sat on logs and played in our tepee while eating our delicious meal.
