In second grade we have been exploring the history, culture, and modern lives of four Native American tribes in books about the Hopi, Cheyenne, Cherokee, and Mohawk. In all four books, students dove into the world of nonfiction texts, learning to understand their organization and structure. With the help of headings, diagrams, captions, and glossaries, they started recognizing how nonfiction text presents information logically.
