Introducing This Year’s Eighth Grade Speaker Series
Posted by Debbie Leidlein
The eighth grade speaker series began with a recipe for success as Aaron Gruen shared with the Unquowa school community his experiences as a junior chef.
Each week, at assembly, one or two eighth graders will deliver an original speech, sharing a passion, an experience, or an idea with the entire school. This speech, met with healthy amounts of excitement and anticipation, is an Unquowa tradition and rite of passage. As our graduating class prepares for the next leg of their academic journey–high school–they leave a token of themselves in their eighth grade speech.
When we started to talk about speeches with the eighth graders, students reminisced on the speakers before them. Our latest Unquowa alums were fresh in their minds, and students recounted their seventh grade memories of sitting in the gym, eyes glinting admiringly, as they listened to last year’s eighth graders, knowing their own time to shine was soon to come. It seemed so long ago… and now it has arrived. We have a wonderful collection of stories, messages, and performances ready to be shared. Hope to see you at assembly!
