Exploring the Solar System
Posted by Mary FaulknerIn fifth grade students are learning about the Earth and space. This includes learning about galaxies, particularly our own galaxy, the Milky Way, how the Earth moves, stars, the inner and outer planets, asteroids, meteors, comments and the moons. This unit lends itself beautifully to students taking on the role of teacher. Each student in fifth grade was assigned a particular planet, the sun, or the asteroid belt to research. After researching specific facts, students were also asked to include any facts they found interesting. To culminate the activity, students presented their posters to their classmates during science class. It was an opportunity for them to teach and give a more in depth look to each of the heavenly bodies investigated.
