Fifth Grade Scientists at the Eli Whitney Museum
Posted by Cameron Ross-MacCormackThe fifth grade traveled to the Eli Whitney Museum in Hamden, CT for workshops on our solar system and engineering design. Students constructed an Orrey (sun, moon and earth kinetic model) that allowed them to produce and observe the very same Newtonian laws that they have studied in class this fall. They understand that the laws that govern the motion of objects here on Earth are the same as those that push and pull our planets and stars beyond. In another project, they built a robotic arm and learned how elastic potential energy and simple machines function. This trip was an impactful start to our STEAM and design-thinking focus in fifth grade science.
