Gratitude Boxes

Posted by Faith BarbutoThe kindergarten class has been working on collecting moments of gratitude. We began by decorating a box to keep our collection in. Aided by our fifth grade reading buddies, we added fancy labels to our Gratitude Boxes. We added drawings and words to represent all the people, places and things that we are grateful for. We read books and watched videos to start thinking about deeper meanings of gratitude, how we could be thankful for small things that happen every day. Even a trip outside became a moment to reflect on things we sometimes take for granted. The boxes went home for Thanksgiving, but the project is far from over. It is my hope that the children will continue to add to the boxes for years to come. In class we discussed how memories could be part of the boxes too, a plane or show ticket, a photo from a treasured family event or trip. When you are feeling sad, it just takes a moment to look through the box and remember how many blessings you have. Students are encouraged to bring in evolving their boxes to share with the class!
