Humanities, Makerspace, and the Middle East!
Posted by Iman RastiAs part of their adventures in exploring World Cultures, seventh grade Humanities students have begun studying the Middle East. To fully fathom the events surrounding this unstable, disturbed region is a daunting task so, in order to better understand what is happening there, we began our journey by learning about the geography of the Middle East. Our students were divided into small groups, each assigned with one Middle Eastern country. Utilizing the plethora of materials made available to us at the makerspace, we embarked on creating relief maps of the assigned countries, showcasing the physical features such as deserts, mountains, and rivers. The bird’s eye view of these countries, we believe, will assist the students in developing a more profound understanding of the economic, political, and cultural configurations of the region; the themes which will be explored next.
