Keep Calm and Write On!
Posted by Ariel WarshawThis week students in our 5th Grade Writing Seminar have been working on building stamina. How do you keep writing without getting too tired or giving up? What are some strategies we might draw on to extend our energy and creativity in writing? We have charted our progress along the way, and can now write for upwards of 15 minutes straight!
Throughout this stamina building exercise, we’ve written a number of inspired pieces. Students have created unbelievable “Tall Tales” using game pieces, drawn on meaningful memories for personal narratives, pretended they were spying through a keyhole to craft wild scenarios, and charted goals for their own writing. As the pages begin to fill in our Writer’s Notebooks, we find ourselves more and more energized to “Keep Calm and Write On!”
