Moving to the Music
Posted by Megan KirkI started this lesson with a simple question “how is the music telling your body to move?” After the question I played music that had very distinct rhythms, tempos and dynamics. Students naturally moved in ways the music “told” them to move. When the music was fast and loud, students skipped or ran around the room. When it turned to very quiet and slow, the students tiptoed and even showed with a “shhh” that they knew the music was telling them to be quiet and slow. One of their favorites was the music that sounded like it had springs bouncing – in which the students immediately started hopping around the room. The giggles and smiles were contagious! This is just the start of students listening and analyzing music!
