The President’s Fitness Challenge at Unquowa
Posted by Marybeth LaneThe results are in. Our students from PreK-4 through eighth grade participated in the President’s Fitness Challenge which measures fitness levels and inspires students to be the best they can be both physically and nutritionally.
We participate in the President’s Fitness Challenge two times a year. Once during the fall and a second time during the third trimester. During the year, students have time to build their endurance levels and cardiovascular strength as they participate in P.E. and on various athletic teams.
By the time spring has sprung, they are ready to improve on their results from the fall. This trimester, students completed a myriad of challenging yet exciting events for the President’s Fitness Challenge. Among the events were the broad jump and long jump; the one mile run; the relay race; the shuttle run which involves blocks; and the 50-yard dash.
The President’s Challenge (also called Presidential Champions) is an American program by President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition that aims to encourage all Americans to “make being active part of their everyday lives” and to be physically fit. The President’s Challenge is designed to help motivate participants to improve regardless of activity and fitness level.
