Tide Pool Exploration
Posted by Colleen NoyesThe 4th grade journeyed to Southport Beach at the perfect low tide. Students used buckets, nets and a keen sense of smell to find a variety of creatures that live in the tidepools. The big and most exciting catch of the day were the crabs! Not surprisingly the little snails, fish, algae and bivalves watched sadly as the kids ran by in pursuit of a speedy crustacean, not even glancing over to see their magnificent syphons, luminous shell bodies and exquisite feeding styles. Fear not though, all creatures great and small will be represented in our curriculum this year. Thank you Southport Beach and nature for providing us with a terrific day in the Long Island Sound ecosystem.
