“Wait, we are learning?!”
Posted by Lisa SylvestroStudents are often shocked to find out that games and puzzles are intentionally played in my Learning Support classes. We can exercise our executive functioning by engaging in challenging tasks- and, spoiler alert- they can be fun! I like to present tasks that require students to plan, initiate, organize, set a goal, be flexible and demonstrate self-control all while working as a team and using positive communication. Collaborating on a puzzle may seem easy enough, but one student remarked, “This hurts my brain!” and I used that as a springboard into a conversation and lesson around executive functioning and the importance of exercising your brain.
