Life in the 1700s
Posted by Maureen DialloOur first and second graders traveled back in time with a visit to the Ogden House in Fairfield, Connecticut, built in 1750! As part of our study of communities, students explored how life in the 1750s was different from life in our communities today. We learned how the Ogden family cared for 79 acres of land, including their animals and gardens, while keeping up with the many daily chores needed to run their home. Students imagined what life might have been like for Mr. and Mrs. Ogden and their seven children, who lived and worked together in a time before many of the conveniences we have today. From farming and caring for the land to completing household responsibilities, we discovered how families worked together to meet their everyday needs. This hands-on experience brought our learning about communities past and present to life and helped us appreciate how much our communities have changed over time!
