The Unquowa Writing Traits
Posted by Iman RastiOur upper-school students were introduced to our newly designed writing rubrics during the first week of the school year. The Unquowa Writing Traits consist of 3 components: The Teaching Rubric; The Grading Rubric; and The Students Checklist. The teaching rubric comprises 7 writing standards widely believed to be essential for successful writing. These traits help the students learn and practice the characteristics of such writing. The grading rubric breaks these standards into smaller, more manageable chunks of information connecting each trait to its corresponding grade. Finally, the students checklist is designed to assist our students in monitoring their own learning and progress in a systematic way. Our upper-school students are very enthusiastic about these new rubrics, and have already displayed progress in their writing.
